It is hard to believe that my best friend Cocoa turns 18-years-old today! I am so lucky to have had him in my life for so many years. In preparation for our birthday party for him, I tried my hand at homemade dog treats. Read on for the recipe!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2/3 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 eggs
- rolling pin
- cookie cutter
- baking sheet
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In an electric mixer, combine pumpkin purée, peanut butter and eggs- beat on medium-high until well combined. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups flour at a low speed, adding more as needed until dough is no longer sticky.
Flour clean surface and knead the dough.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out about 1/4 inch and cut out desired shapes.
I ordered this cookie cutter off Amazon that I was able to customize with my dogs name!
Place on baking sheet when complete and bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are golden brown. I really lathered on the flour here because my cookie cutter was getting stuck a lot from the peanut butter!
Let cool and begin taste test.
These treats were so easy to make, contained few ingredients, and my dogs loved them! Whip up a batch for your fur babies or bake some for a dog lover!
